TAG is one of those brands that I've never felt the desire to own... possibly something to do with the way it's marketed as a high end watch but they still keep pumping out so many non-in house movements at a ridiculous price. Then they spend even more money on celebrities to promote it...
Then I discovered the Monaco (reissued of course)... yes it's also nothing spectacular... but there was something about the square face and blue dial that kept me coming back for a second look... and a lingering desire to own it... It must have been one of those "oooo shiny" moments...
The Monaco was first introduced by Heuer in 1969 for the Monaco Grand Prix. The fact it was a square automatic watch was revolutionary. It was probably most famous for it's appearance in a 1971 film Le Mans, worn by Steve McQueen.... even so much so that's how it's referred now (McQueen).
I think at the end of the day my feelings for TAG overrode my love of the watch and it's now on the market (at a loss) to hopefully be on a wrist of a more appreciative owner...
Bye bye Monaco... it has been fun.
