I first experienced Lord of the Fries in Melbourne. I was really just after some late night hit of fattiness and nothing better than some hot chips and good sauce. Little did I know this Lord is vegetarian, kosher and halal.
From the outside it appears to be another fast food chain serving burgers and chips, but inside you're getting soy, good oils and a healthier option.
We ended up trying their Mini Spicy Burger - Jalapenos, Cheese, Onion, Lettucem Chilli, Mayo, Spicy Tomatao Sauce, Veg Beef Patty. When they say mini... it was mini. The burger was like a slider in my hands. Though if not forewarned, I might not have notice/minded too much it wasn't a meat burger. The sauce was lacking but had great flavours when you manage to get some... which basically meant it ended up being slightly on the dry side.
At the end of the day, no it will not trump a beef burger BUT is it trying to? Possibly not. It's a healthy alternative to slamming down those Big Macs though.
The side order of chips was generous for a small serving. We paired it with a small tub of Belgian sauce - famous Euro Mayo. The flavours on that were subtle too. Their chips had an old school feel about them, like the ones we use to get growing up in the 90's.
Lord of the Fries is located on the busy George Street. It doesn't offer any seating, the service was friendly but waiting around in a tight space for your food to be ready (especially if its busy) isn't probably worth it. Though I definitely still recommend a try due to the interesting nature of the menu.
