When you walk past Cream, you get an upper class feel about it from it's stylish and modern decor. With a menu that caters from breakfast til late night, Cream seems like the all in one package place to be. The problem for me with all in one packages is.. you do everything well but nothing spectacular.
Their menu reeks of generic cafe food that's overpriced. I ordered their Lasagne - traditional Italian style lasagne of slow cooked beef ragu, layered with home made pasta, baby spinach and bechamel with a rocket and parmesan salad. What I got was a sloppy mess that resembled some form of a lasagne. It was very mediocre in sight and in taste. The salad was basic but tasted great.
My friend got their Salmon Salad - ginger & lemongrass cured salmon in a cucumber, papaya & asian herb salad w/ lemon sesame dressing. I didn't have a taste but he wasn't impressed.
The thing that really ruined the night was their Panna Cotta - vanilla & dark chocolate layered panna cotta w/ strawberry & mint salad. The biscuit on top was bland and horrible... every bite of it made me wonder why it even came with the dessert. The two of us didn't even manage to finish that tiny biscuit. The panna cotta tasted more mousse-like due to the lack of gelatin.
The customer service was friendly... I expect nothing less from Canberra but the waiter we had rushed our ordering process as if he was trying to break some speed record for talking.
I have nothing but compliments to their decor. It was beautiful eye candy as I let my vision drift around as I waited for my food.
Cream has a lot to offer. I think a change in menu is all this place needs to compliment their fantastic layout and justify their pricing.
