Tea+ Taiwanese Cuisine and Drinks

We have walked past this place many times. I've peered in but have never been drawn enough to give it a try. For some reason, after dining nearby, we were under the impression we'd just pop in for some dessert. Despite their restaurant signage clearly saying Taiwanese Cuisine and Drinks, we were quite shocked that they had no desserts on the menu.

What they did have was a large drinks selection (more than half the menu). At that point we were too lazy and cold to leave, so I guess we just made do.

Despite just finishing dinner we couldn't resist the sound of Wasabi Fish Balls.

It was pretty much as described. The wasabi hit was pleasant and not over bearing. The fish ball were quite soft and overall the dish was decent. I personally didn't find it moreish but in all fairness I'm not the biggest Taiwanese Cuisine fan.

My poison for the night was their Taro Milk Foam. I loved the subtle taro flavour hiding underneath a creamy Sea Salt Milk Foam layer that's salty and sweet to the palate...with the salty hit slightly prevailing. There seems to be a trend recently with adding salts and colours to drinks and desserts. Overall the drink was quite dense and filling... which made me quite feel slightly sickened as I attempted to scull down the last drops.

My wife ordered their specialty, House Special Plant Milk Tea. You can't help but pull out your phone to Instagram it. A pastel tea layer of choice, with Sea Salt Foam, then an Oreo crumb resembling soil topped off with some mint.... and best of all it tastes quite good as well. The portion sizes here are quite generous as we struggled to finish off our drinks.

My friend opted for a non milky drink and had the Super Mango Smoothie with Coconut Ice... his response to how it tasted was merely "It's ok". In saying that, majority of the customers had some form of milk based beverage.

The thing that impressed me most was that each menu they had (and they only had a few I think) was hand made. I'm not sure why they went to so much personal effort but I sat there flicking through in shock and awe... and at same time slightly impressed at the time and effort that's gone into the design. I couldn't stop talking about that menu. What you will also notice is the menu is predominantly written in Chinese with slight hints of English... mainly to cater for majority of their customers. This made it a bit hard to order some of the mains as the description barely gave you an idea of what you'd be receiving.

The decor was quite plain and the restaurant was cosy. This probably gave the illusion that it was more popular than it was... plus there were barely enough seats to cater for the demand. The turn over was slow as well with most people playing on their phones and nursing their drinks 'til closing.

We only realised after a while that after getting our seats and browsing through the menu we actually had to order at the front counter.

For a place located off the main strip of Burwood Road... and on the quieter side of Burwood as well, it gets its fair share of diners. So if you're looking for a coffee house to chill and catch up, maybe give Tea+ a try...over a cup of savoury beverage.

About

I suddenly feel the tides turning. A yearn for something better in my life. I'm hoping for big changes in my career, maybe the touch of my first born and the ongoing rollercoaster of my marriage.

It feels important enough to dedicate a few minutes of my days to etch out how it is through my eyes... just so one day I can flick through and reminisce

Meet The Author

I've spent my whole life being the son my parents wanted me to be. I studied hard, went through the different levels of the school system and then I'm now 30. I married a beautiful girl, trying to pay off a mortgage, and have a bucket list of things I want to do which don't involve work.

I've always had a passion for blogging, photography, food, collecting aka organised hoarding and music and I can't think of any better moment to start documenting it...
