When it comes to places like this I stick with what I know is good and that's their Bun Bo Hue... which for me is the next level of Pho... I know they are not really the same dish but I find the complexity of the Bun Bo Hue, especially with the chilli element, really enhances the tastes without the need of adding hoi sin sauces or what not... it's just great how it is... maybe a squeeze of lemon and presto... perfection in a bowl. Though in saying that it's not the best bowl of Bun Bo Hue you can get in Cabramatta... but it's up there. All this and I pair it up with my Three Bean drink... so Asian-ly good.
My sister went for a bowl of Banh Canh Cua Chao Tum - Thick Rice Noodle with Sugar Cane Prawns. I've always loved sugar cane prawns but this dish for me is always too dense and gooey. I enjoy it as a sampler aka tasting it from someone else bowl... but just devoting my whole meal to that is not my cup of tea... which is in no way a bad representation of the quality of the dish.. in fact the quality was quite good.
On an even more adventurous scale... my wife chose the Cambodian Thick Rice Noodle (dry with a side of soup)... and the meats are a mixture of prawns and mainly offal... I think she instantly regretted it after a few bites in (which meant I had to swap my bowl for hers)... I personally don't mind it but am slightly put off by the texture of liver. Overall a dish that's definitely unique if you wanted to try something new.
My mum went for the safe option and got Pho... to which she said was quite mediocre. She's never had it here and just wanted to give it a try... guess she'll just stick with the Bun Bo Hue next time...
The service here was great... they spoke enough english to get our order through with no problems and she was polite and smiling a lot. Which us always great to see as most places just offer rushed and grumpy service.
With good service and a consistent quality level of food... I definitely understand why this place is barely empty... not only at Cabramatta but at all it's other locations in Sydney. A definite thumbs up recommendation from me if you want something warm and soupy... and don't forget quite a cheap eat as well.
