What you will notice about this burger joint upon research is why are they sitting at 45% on Urbanspoon yet on a Friday night you would be struggling to find a seat...
The answer is simple.. people are just here to drink. So we foolishly walked in with the intention to kill ourselves by trying their food menu. I even took up the offer and got a burger with some Budweiser to wash it down.
My poison for the night was their Black Widow burger with a charcoal bun, ground beef, chipotle mayo and jalapeƱo chilli. The bun itself was more visually effective than the taste. The sauce was decent but was enough to overcome the biggest complaint of the night... how dry everything was. How were all the burgers lacking in sauce and quality?
My wife got the Dirty burger with a bacon rasher and cheesy beer sauce. With so little ingredients in this burger, you'd think they'd give some more sauce to compensate. It somehow tasted dryer than my burger.
One of my friends tried the Original Morrison burger with chipotle mayo... which she reacted with a sigh of disappointment. Very average indeed...
Since we were here anyways, we decided to give all the sides a try. I think this was the biggest mistake of the night. With only four sides on the menu they manage to make mistake after mistake in quality...
First up were the beer battered onion rings for $5. I had to ask the question, "Are these onion rings?" because it just tasted like a ring of batter.... and bad oily batter at that. I think that was another consistent flow of the evening... they chose to use the same oil to cook their fried foods...
Next up were the Deep Fried Pickles for $5. Essentially a small plate of small pickles that were deep fried with the same disgusting oil.. and on top of that the pickles tasted dried out.
The next dish was the Cabbage Parmesan Slaw for $5.... which surprisingly was the only saviour of the night. I mean if the salad with cheese on top is your shining dish... then your food must be horrible beyond belief.
Lastly we got the Duck Fat Chips for $6. These were soggy with hardly a hint of duck fat.
If you were to base this place on their Urbanspoon rating.. then the 45% at the current time is quite fair. With a great location and a great crowd... can you please spend some money and reinvent the menu. Newbies come here for the shock factor of a Black Bun... but once that dies... you need to at least serve some decent grub for them to come back.
The only positive was the fact the food came out fast... so if you chose to dine where burgers go to die... then at least it's quick...
