Five Points

So WifeOfSnackingBear and I finally both had a day off on a weekday and we made our way into the city for Bar Luca. Unfortunately that day Bar Luca too decided to not come to work which left us stranded for options. Still craving nothing but burgers we made our way over the bridge to see what the hype was all about at Five Points.

When we rocked up there was already a line forming inside the place. It's smaller than I thought it would be... offering a few seats that look out and a large sharing table with stools. We were fortunate enough to snag too seats at the end of the communal table after we placed our order.

WifeOfSnackingBear chose to tackle the Bronx - Grilled beef pattie, double cheese, tomato sauce, pickles, American mustard, aioli, bacon, onion jam and iceberg lettuce. To be honest it just ended up tasting like a fancy cheeseburger with a slice of bacon in it. I love my sauces but this burger was messier to eat than most. The sauce slobbered all over the hands and face quite easily. For me the flavours were simple, nothing really re-inventive and just a burger thats done good.

With two similar beef options on their menu, WifeOfSnackingBear insisted on switching the meat and we opted for Queens as our second challenger. - Grilled chicken breast, bacon, cheese, tomato n' chilli sauce, iceberg lettuce, gherkin mayo. I was happy the chicken was not dry and the sauces were yet again still nothing spectacular. The bacon was not crispy as I'd hope and overall it just felt average at best.

The beer battered chips come in its own box. It's crispy but needs some of the communal sauce on the table to lift the flavour game. I mean even a half decent pub can pull off beer battered chips so it's nothing better than the norm.

We had their Salted Caramel Milkshake - Vanilla bean ice cream, milk and famous salted caramel sauce. I love the consistency and appreciated that they didn't try and stuff a cake or donut on top of a milkshake. This is the benchmark of where a good milkshake should start. At the end of the day it's a decent shake at a reasonable asking price.

As we sat and waited for our food the line started spiralling inside the restaurant which meant people were bumping into my back as they walked past just to try and get into a long queue.

To be honest, a Zomato rating of 4.6 is bit of a far stretch. That was the deciding vote for WifeOfSnackingBear too to justify the drive. I enjoyed the burger, the quality was ok, portion size was ok but was it worth fighting through the lines and waiting for it... I would say no... if the lines short enough give it a try... otherwise I'm not thoroughly convinced about the hype.

About

I suddenly feel the tides turning. A yearn for something better in my life. I'm hoping for big changes in my career, maybe the touch of my first born and the ongoing rollercoaster of my marriage.

It feels important enough to dedicate a few minutes of my days to etch out how it is through my eyes... just so one day I can flick through and reminisce

I've always had a passion for blogging, photography, food, collecting aka organised hoarding and music and I can't think of any better moment to start documenting it...
