Gia Hoi

As a last minute celebration for my December-baby friend, we rocked up to Bankstown to eat a favourite and classic Vietnamese dinner.

After discovering this place years back, back at Canley, I was hooked on their Bun Bo Hue. Bun Bo Hue will change your life. If you just love Pho and haven't ventured out then please do because it will change your mind and you will never be able to go back to plain tasting Pho again... well at least that's been my experience...

With a larger group I was able to capture some of their other dishes that my friends tried instead of mine. My wife ordered the grilled pork chop Vietnamese broken rice dish (Com Tam) was surprisingly good. Nice mixture of the fish sauce, with rice, the oils in the meat... it makes for a perfect bite.

My friend tried their crispy chicken... which he said wasn't as great as Tan Viet... where is the crisp?

The massive Bun Bo Hue came with the side of vegetables... which we discussed how half of us adds it into the soup to give it a different texture and the other half leaves it untouched because the addition drowns out the flavour and the difference in texture is quite unpleasant...

The soup here is amazing. This is what they're famous for. Yes it has a slight kick but nothing too hot to handle. You can even pay a little more the get the Special Bun Bo Hue... which they include a Pork Hock in your soup for you to gnaw on.

The Pennywort drink here looks like sugar powder with water...

My wife had their coconut drink. Typical packet stuff...

... and I had the Logan drink... most likely from a can as well...

It's a nice, cheap, perfect meal for all occasions. I love this place... well except the service... if they're slightly busy.. be prepared to be ignored or forgotten.

About

I suddenly feel the tides turning. A yearn for something better in my life. I'm hoping for big changes in my career, maybe the touch of my first born and the ongoing rollercoaster of my marriage.

It feels important enough to dedicate a few minutes of my days to etch out how it is through my eyes... just so one day I can flick through and reminisce

Meet The Author

I've spent my whole life being the son my parents wanted me to be. I studied hard, went through the different levels of the school system and then I'm now 30. I married a beautiful girl, trying to pay off a mortgage, and have a bucket list of things I want to do which don't involve work.

I've always had a passion for blogging, photography, food, collecting aka organised hoarding and music and I can't think of any better moment to start documenting it...
