Yet again my friends had a craving for camel burgers. I remembered having one in Lakemba and talking about it to everyone. It was a great experience. The sauce was so creamy and paired with a simple salad. Personally my last experience at Dougie's Grill was quite bad. I think I got greedy and ordered a burger that was waaaaay too big to bite into.... also is was smothered in sides that didn't compliment. My motto is always less is more when it comes to people just cramming things into burgers to justify the cost.
We chose the franchise in Auburn to dine at this time. It was just closer to home and I was feeling rather lazy. After the inital taste test, everyone reckoned the franchise in Bankstown wins hands down.
I opted for the deer burger. It was very overpriced, something ridiculous like $20 for a meal (side of chips and a can of soft drink). The deer meat was not as gamy as I thought... though I have had it last time in a satay style dish. I remember feeling sick afterwards... maybe it was just the vision of eating a deer drenched in satay.
My wife got the camel burger. It was too saucy even for me. Smothered in a lame BBQ sauce as opposed to this Dougie sauce they had in Bankstown. The basic camel burger is quite enjoyable when done right. Note to self: Re-try at Bankstown franchise to confirm it's deliciousness.
All plates are smothered in chips, which weren't salted enough and just dry in general. You know it's bad when you struggle to finish the chips and need the drink to help you finish. The service was friendly, the food came out quick and they even have a nice basin to wash your hands in the eating area.
