After watching several repeats of Lionel Richie promoting the Tap King on TV, I finally found a bargain online where they were offering the dispenser for free and I just had to buy my own keg/bottle to accompany it. Hello is it me you're looking for....
This really gave me almost no reason not to try this out.
What I really did love was unpacking the dispenser. The assembling of it felt creative. It felt like you were getting a quality product despite it feeling plasticky. The packaging was nice and efficient to access. The setup was quite simple even without instructions.
The downfalls are :
- the beer does end up costing more than if you just bought a case of it
- you need to store the keg/bottle in the fridge if you decide to stock up during sale
- once open you also have to consume it under a time frame
- the beer choices aren't that wide, so you're stuck with mass produced beers.
- the dispenser itself plus the bottle takes up 1/3 of a large shelf in your fridge, which might be an issue for some.
Though negatives aside I do like the fact I can easily get a small glass of beer anytime I feel like without the obligation to drink the whole bottle. The beer, probably just in my head, does taste better too... like it's slightly crisper than usual.
I guess the fact the dispenser was free really offsets my first few kegs. So here's to enjoying beer on tap at home.
