It was peak brunch time on a public holiday and the Cupping Room had crowds gathering around it. We placed our name on the list and was shown the side window where you can grab a drink while we endure the waiting game.
With good company and a beverage in hand the time flew by and we found ourselves seated on a table for 6. I'm pointing the finger at bad allocation of resources being the reason why theres such a bottleneck. I opted for their Crumb Haloumi - macadamia-crumbed haloumi, asparagus, two poached eggs, capsicum aioli and granny smith slaw. The macadamia crumb took the already delicious haloumi to a new level. It really balanced out the saltiness. All this paired with perfectly cooked eggs, a refreshing slaw and that aioli was to die for. I found myself soaking every last drop of the sauce with the asparagus.
WifeofSnackingBear opts for their Lamb Rilletes - dukkah crumbed lamb rillettes, harissa aioli, pomegranate, pickled carrot salad, date labna and confit egg yolk. The dish exemplifies a perfect example of a well balanced Persian influenced dish. The rilletes were tender and well seasoned, the labna was moreish and the interesting peaks of savoury and sourness through a playful use of pomegranate iced the cake.
Both dishes were quite heavy for breakfast... but if I'm ever in need of a hearty morning start, I'd choose this over the standard breakfast options any day.
If you're after a milkshake that isn't trying to balance another dessert on top then I would suggest their Salted Caramel and Popcorn Milk Shake. It's laced with heavenly flavours that can truly melt worries away. My only complaint was there wasn't enough.
On public holidays you will be slapped with a 15% surcharge. It was a bit annoying but it was clearly labelled everywhere. Their customer service is friendly when they get a chance to interact but most of the time the staff were just way too busy.
It was definitely worth the 1 hour wait and worthy of the hype. I can't wait to get a chance to dine here again and sample another potential mouth watering combination.
