If you're after a happening place to get your coffee hit and a feed then most foodies would suggest Brewtown. Off the main artery of Newtown and tucked in a side street you would fine a rather large venue packed with diners just chillaxing and brunching. We manage to score some seats just before a line formed instantaneously after us.
When the menu hit the table, we quickly made our order choices. Parking is scarce at times around this area.. and even if you do find something, it has short time limits. WifeofSnackingBear chooses the Grilled Black Sausage, capsicum and paprika puree, zucchini ribbons, olives and goats cheese. That's just what everyone needs to get their protein hit every morning, a high dose of pork blood. Essentially a whole plate of black pudding paired with a light salad. I don't mind black pudding but this was just too much of it in one hit. The dish felt so unbalanced but I guess you at least get what you ordered.
I'm still stuck in this annoying burger craving phase so I went for their Breakfast Burger - Bourbon and Rosemary Bacon, fried egg, hash brown, fennel and apple slaw on a milk bun. The burger came out beautifully plated and that fatty slice of pork beckoned to be eaten. It was paired with a simple base sauce but everything just worked as you get a bit of the hot hash brown, tender meat and fresh salad in that perfect bite. Personally a bit pricy for what it was but still doesn't take away it was a delicious breakfast burger.
The venue use to be a bookstore which closed and then converted into a coffee focused cafe. The interior screams industrial with exposed brick and concrete floors. They have also decked the venue with a long coffee bar where you can watch the baristas do their thang.
You'll often find yourself seated at communal tables which I'm never a fan... probably due to my introverted personality or the fact I'm always snapping photos of food. Near the register is glass cabinets lined with drool worthy cruffins. It was enough to entice a quick sample. It got a bit messy without cutlery and the lack of tissues to mop up afterwards.
The service was attentive whenever it can be but most of the time the staff were too busy to do anything that would deem above and beyond service.
As mentioned in previous posts... I'm not a fan of cafe food. I find it simple, sub par in quality and overpriced. It caters the life style people beckon rather than the mind blowing eating adventure I normally prefer. This place doesn't need a raving review to justify why it gets its customers.
