After a satisfying lunch in Marrickville, we needed to fill the mandatory sweet tooth cravings before heading home so my brother in law suggested Crepe House Cafe for their crazy crepe concoctions.
Crepes in general have never been in my list of food cravings but this place offered quite a unique touch for their sweet crepes... combining well known chocolates into it's mixture. I suppose like the hype of a Deep Fried Mars Bar... it really just provided an alternative way to enjoy your ordinary sweets.
I started off with their Ferrero Rocher Thick Shake... the thick shake aspect sold me... and you can't really say no to Ferroros. As my regular readers might know, I'm a die hard fan for a thick shake which should never be mistaken for a milk shake. The shake was quite sweet, very dense but the Ferrero hint was a bit light. Overall the consistency was fantastic... just me slightly nit picking at it because the price was set at a ridiculous $9.50 for a thick shake.
To follow we sampled some of their more appealing sweet crepes such as the Aphrodite - crepe with milk chocolate, white chocolate and Kit Kat... and a side of ice-cream. The crepe was okay on its own and the filling was very sweet and intense. It's quite substantial despite splitting three crepes amongst five people.
The other tempting dessert was the Artemis - a crepe with Nutella, Mars Bar, Oeros and Maltesers. This was overly indulgent... and I don't mean it in a good way where I roll my eyes back in pure enjoyment.. but instead it's to the point where it could not be thoroughly enjoyed and slightly sickening... and this is coming from a guy who loves his chocolate.
My biggest issue with the dessert was that there was no distinction in the chocolate and it just melded into a goo which wasn't as pleasant as the name sounded. The only traces remaining was the malt from the Malteasers.
The service was prompt and polite... with the staff seating us immediately and the food coming out at a reasonable rate. The decor was simple and clean... with nothing that really wow'd diners... but I loved the little jars of chocolate stacked into pyramids on the shelves.
To be fair... I' have to reiterate I'm not such a big crepe fan... the concept is a great and the place fulfils the demand of people wanting to hang out and sip slowly on their coffee as they delve into a paper or phone as the afternoon eases by... as for me I was merely here for their dessert... and in saying that it didn't wow me on that level. If you're just after a place to chill and you love crepes... then give this place a try.... as for me I'm more a burger man.

Ummm I'm so so on crepes too. But waffles, well that's another thing.
Any recommendations on good waffles?
